Creating a drop-down list box in some Microsoft Office applications is as simple as selecting an option from a menu. If you want to create such a list in PowerPoint, unfortunately, no such menu option is available; but you can make a drop-down list by employing automation on your slides. Then all you need to do is link the list items to other slides containing relevant information.
Step 1
Go to the slide where you want to create a drop-down list box. Click on the "Insert" tab, click "Shapes," and then select a rectangle or similar shape. Draw or copy and paste one shape onto the slide for the name of your list and additional shapes for each list item. Make sure the shapes are conjoined and lined up horizontally. Right-click each shape, select "Add Text" and type in the list title or list item.
Step 2
Press and hold the "Ctrl" key while clicking on each of the list item shapes to select them all. Go to the "Format" tab, point to "Group" in the Arrange group and select "Group" from the list. Go to the "Animations" tab. Click "Add Animations" and select "Wipe" from the Entrance section.
Step 3
Click the "Effect Options" dialog launcher in the bottom right corner of the Animation group. Select "From Top" for the direction; select "Very Fast" for the speed. Click the "Triggers" button and select "Start Effect on Click Of." Choose the name of your main menu so that when you click the main menu, the list will appear to drop down. Click on the group of list items. Click "Add Animations" and select "Disappear" from the Exit section.
Step 4
Add hyperlinks to the list items to move to other slides in your PowerPoint presentation. Click on the first list item shape and press "Ctrl-K." Select "Place in This Document" in the "Link To" list on the left. Choose the slide that you want to link to the first item and click "OK." Repeat for the remaining list items. Insert hyperlinks on the slides to which you linked as well, linking back to the slide that contains your drop-down list so you can come back to where you left off.
Step 5
Save the changes you made to the slide show and then close the PowerPoint window.
